Hybrid Dentures Q & A

What are hybrid dentures?

Hybrid dentures are a cross between a traditional denture and a fixed dental bridge. It combines the advantages of permanent tooth replacement with those of a removable denture.

Just like regular, traditional dentures, hybrid dentures utilize a full set of high-quality dental prosthetics that can replace full rows of teeth. But unlike regular dentures, hybrid dentures are secured your mouth.

How do hybrid dentures work?

Depending on the size and shape of your jawbone, a set of four or more dental implants are surgically implanted in your mouth to support the dentures. Over time, these titanium posts fuse to your jaw and support a titanium or gold bar that anchors your composite teeth in place.

You don’t need to remove your hybrid dentures every day like you would traditional dentures, and because they are supported by a fixed implant, they won’t move around on you. However, Patrick can still easily remove the hybrid dentures if necessary.

It’s important to remember that hybrid dentures require careful planning and coordination.

What are the benefits of hybrid dentures?

Some patients complain that traditional dentures can feel bulky and uncomfortable. A hybrid denture is secured in place, and the roof of the upper dentures can remain open, giving you a more natural feel. This feature also enables you to better enjoy the taste of your food.

Hybrid dentures are also more stable and do not move or shift against your jaw ridge.

How can you best care for your hybrid dentures?

Maintaining good oral hygiene is important to the success of your hybrid dentures. Unlike traditional dentures, where you have to take them out every night to clean and soak them, the unique design of hybrid dentures allows you to clean them as if you’re brushing your natural teeth. A professional removal and cleaning twice a year is recommended.
